Christmas Special Radio Show with Warrior One and Murlo

Pollinate and Steak House join forces for the final radio show of the year to bring you a festive line up so rich, it’ll make you throw up on your Christmas jumper.

In a super special extended Christmas show, we have double the Christmas cheer with not one special guest but two under the hivemind.fm Christmas tree

First up we have the futurekwaitobashemntsoca don himself, Murlo the red nosed reindeer. We’ve been trying to get him down to the show for ages and we’re super excited to have him delivering his trademark karnival sound.

Alongside Murlo, we have Santa’s Little Helper aka Warrior One. Fresh from working with the one and only Durrty Goodz as well as blowing up every club from here to Trinidad, Warrior One will be decking the halls with boughs of funky bashment.

All this plus rude tunes, inappropriate banter and mulled wine from your hosts Jon Hanuman and Rob Pollinate means this is a radio show well worth skipping your office party for.

Wednesday night. Hivemind.fm. 8pm – Bedtime.

October Radio Show With DJ Simbad

This month on the Pollinate & Steak House show we’ve invited the globe-trotting DJ Simbad down for a hearty mix session. Simbad’s long been dotting from city to city performing and collaborating with some of the underground’s finest musicians and producers; Zed Bias, Gonzalez, Talvin Singh, Bugz In The Attic and many, many more. His CV is longer than a piece of string, he’s done too much and just keeps on keeping on. At the beginning of 2011 he joined up with Lefto to record an amazing double CD for Giles Peterson’s Brownswood label. It’s an album that’s been buzzing on our stereo all year and we’re extremely happy to have the man mix live in the Studio.

TUNE INTO THE SHOW BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8PM & 10PM GMT ON WEDNESDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2011 AT: WWW.HIVEMIND.FM

From deepest darkest Bristol, comes my Steak House and Monkey Steak partner in crime Sam Atki2. Expect dutty bass, camp disco and ale fuelled tomfoolery.

Steak House Vs Pollinate Radio Show w/Joao Brazil

Once again we join forces with Pollinate Records to present our monthly show. A show of new exclusive tunes, old favorites, boozy banter, special guests and a smoky room full of excitable fans.

JoĆ£o Brasil "L.O.V.E. Banana" feat. Lovefoxxx from CSS from Man Recordings on Vimeo.

This month we’ve invited our local funk master, JoĆ£o Brasil down to perform a special set! He’s an MPC whizz, certified mashup king, Fatboy Slim’s favourite Brasilian and the man behind the sexiest video of 2011 so far!

Joao’s newest hit, ‘L.O.V.E Banana’ has been released by Man Recordings. The lovely Lovefoxxx from CSS sings about the banana and how she loves it. It’s a cheeky number that’s already hitting the summer chartsmiths hard and having already tallied 25000 views it’s destined for big things. Get it!

We’re dead excited to have him in Studio 54 this Wednesday (8th June). Listen in to Hivemind.fm between the hours of 8pm & 10pm.

Mix Monday: Andy Payback - +Computer Rule+ Soundboy Killing In A Digital Style

At the Peng Sound club night last month (a great small party located in the basement Take 5 Cafe on Stokes Croft), I had the pleasure of getting my skank on to the latest selection from underground Bristol legend Andy Payback.

Andy's soundboy credentials hark back some 22 years when he began collecting records; all types of Jamaican sounds, early soul and rhythm and blues, disco and electronics, post-punk and Miami Bass, and has been repping these sounds out in and around Bristol for the last 12 years.

Andy also used to co-promote one Bristol's first electronic events, Pedestrian, in the late 90s and early 00s, booking the likes of Four Tet, Bogdan Raczynski and The Bug for their Bristol debuts! While Pedestrian closed their doors for business in 2003, Andy has had time to return to his early love of Reggae, particular the Digital sound from around 1985-1991. His favourite labels include Jammy$, Redman International, Parish, Fashion, Firehouse, Waterhouse and Witty, and producers such as Gussie P, Steely & Cleevie, Hugh James, Philip Smart, King Jammy, Edgar Whyte, Fatman and Peego. He also teamed up with legendary Payback Record stall in Bristol's St Nick's covered market, and continues to promote and play his sounds all over the city.

Like Andy, I'm a sucker for this particular offshoot of reggae, and this blinding mix demonstrates his thorough and detailed knowledge of the genre. As for the title, and for the theme of this mix, Andy says "this title is more than just a tired cliche or overused signifier bolted onto another tepid Reggae mix to lend it some sort of authenticity. This is a mix of 100% soundboy-killing Dancehall records from the Digital era ... All played from 7"s, 12"s and LPs."

This mix really is a treat and reveals a master selector at work! And as the man says, "All counteractions welcome...."

02. Brian & Tony Gold - Pass Me A Dubplate
03. Sugar Minott - Don't Distress

Mix Monday: Brother Wetlands - Right Royal Wedding Mix

Just the sort of mix I need to kick start my the week, Brother Wetlands latest selection has enough blue in its blood to make any royalty blush. Bristol-based Ole "Brother Wetlands" Rudd is resident DJ for club nights Ruffnek Diskotek, Micro_Rave, Duchess and Boggle, is one of the main organisers behind this year's Bristol Naked Bike Ride, and is attempting to kick start a Bristol booty revival!

You can hear his current obsession for Chicago/Detroit/Miami ghetto music from the early 90s through to the mid-noughties well represented in this mix, with some added curveballs from the likes of Ceephax Acid Crew and Wagon Christ.

DJ Stryda meets Dub Boy Mixtape

Recently myself and Bristol's number one rootsman, DJ Stryda, linked up to compile a mix for the infamous Subloaded party.

We both spent some time rooting through Stryda's incredible record collection pulling out rarities galore and some choice cuts from his Sufferah's Choice label catalogue.

Once happy with our selections we decamped to my studio where I juggled, mixed & blended the tracks into a continuous mix whilst Stryda jumped around providing the vibes......

The result is a mix we're both proud to present to you all!

Cham & Timberlee - Tump Mi (Dub Boy refix)

Mad House' 'Turn It Up' riddim has proved to be a bit of a smash in recent months with Pinchers cut, 'Amazing' getting most of the plaudits. However for my money Cham & Timberlee's cut, 'Tump Mi' is just as strong and has been getting many a forward when Ive played it.

So I've put together a little relick which blends the original with Jinx In Dub's chunky reworking of the classic Ali Baba riddim.
