Two new mixes to post up today both coming from myself.

I've been busy recently recording various mixtapes for various projects this summer and here's a couple that have recently been put online.

Both mixes include plenty of unreleased & exclusive material and explore the 100-115bpm tempo that is producing so many exciting sounds right now.

RUFFNEK DISKOTEK Summer Bashment this Saturday

If you're in Bristol this Saturday (18th June) then all roads lead to Cosies for the annual Ruffnek Diskotek summer bashment!

Steak House head honcho's Monkey Steak, will be gracing the decks alongside Dub Boy and Stylatron.

As always you can expect an eclectic mix of bass heavy soundsystem styles including everything from dancehall to dubstep and juke to jungle.

Come down, it should be fiyah!!

DJ Stryda meets Dub Boy Mixtape

Recently myself and Bristol's number one rootsman, DJ Stryda, linked up to compile a mix for the infamous Subloaded party.


We both spent some time rooting through Stryda's incredible record collection pulling out rarities galore and some choice cuts from his Sufferah's Choice label catalogue.


Once happy with our selections we decamped to my studio where I juggled, mixed & blended the tracks into a continuous mix whilst Stryda jumped around providing the vibes......


The result is a mix we're both proud to present to you all!

A few months back, Dont Panic asked me to compile a mixtape for their website. Here is the result!

It's been over 2 years since I last made a dancehall mixtape, and in that time I had become somewhat bored of the turgid RnB, Hip Hop, American-aping sound dancehall had gone down.

However, to my delight, in the last few months dancehall has begun to revisit it's 80's & 90's digital and tinpan roots. This mixtape is a summary of some of my favourite tunes from recent months, plus some original dancehall anthems......

Ruffnek Diskotek / Steak House start a brand new, 2 hour radio show on Bristol's new internet radio station Hivemind FM this Wednesday. Dub Boy and myself will be doing the first session, and show will be going out every fortnight. If you've ever been to a Ruffnek Diskotek party before, you'll know what to expect, a big bassy bashy mix of dancehall, funky, garage, party electronics and dub.

Flower Of Life

I just had to blog this!

G Rina, is a singer / dj / producer based in Tokyo. She has recently completed a side project called Mashed Pieces, whereby she has a recorded a series of excellent vocals over a selection of contemporary dubstep & house beats.

As well as Dub Boy & Atki2's 'Tigerflower', she has recorded songs using beats from Martyn, Joker, Pinch amongst others, plus Steak House's own Mr Gasparov (which is a great rework of his 1975 track released on Steak 001)!

And whilst we're on the subject of Tigerflower, there's been a great response to both the track and the whole Idle Hands release in the last few weeks.

Boomkat have been very positive about the release describing our efforts as "delicious tropical house fusions"

And Onethirtybpm have given us glowing reviews in their monthly dubstep reviews saying Tigerflower is "fucking phenomenal" and the 12" is "absolute fucking dynamite".

Steak House Family 12" on Idle Hands

This morning, I was excited to find that the second 12" on Idle Hands went on sale at Rooted Records yesterday. For those who may not yet know, this is the first 12" to feature all the Steak House crew on production duties!

Clips for all the tracks can be heard on the Idle Hands myspace. Those wanting to check the original Bola (fine tune it is too!), I believe there's another Sleazetone 12" in the works featuring said track and more remixes (Murderbot, Kanji Kinetic and Star Eyes if memory serves). But for now, I'm very content to have my version cut loud and proud on Bristol wax!

Tigerflower, I believe, was made about two years ago now, when Dubbers and I first stumbled across some Marcus Nasty mixtapes. It was a little while before we were really aware of what UK Funky was, and I remember he and I had several long (and probably quite tedious) conversations trying to work out whether what we were hearing was dancehall, or house, or garage, or quite what. Anyway, we both agreed that we should get in the music room and have a go at bashing some these beats out ourselves and so Tigerflower was the result. Looking back, it was definitely a significant moment getting Dub Boy working on production this time! Big ups to you mate, I still look back on that session fondly, and hopefully next time we'll get you pushing the buttons as well as rolling the joints! ;)

As for the Grievous Angel remix, I can't shed any further light on that one, other than to suggest listening to the clips, dropping it in the clubs and letting it work its magic! Paul has the Midas touch when it comes to bashment funky bangers.
