STEAK 002: MONKEY STEAK.

Exciting times. We've just got everything finalised for the next record and I can confirm that STEAK 002 sees label bosses Monkey Steak (myself and Atki2) take the helm to deliver a release that fuses Soca, Funky and Bashment sounds with global influences and trademark Monkey Steak edits. We've enlisted the formidable vocal talents of the original badman MC Zulu on Hyped Up! and the record also features Tigris Riddim (as featured on Toddla T's recent Fabric mix) and Haarlem Drift (as featured on Murderbot's recent Mad Decent mixtape)

You can listen to short preview clips on our myspace by following the link below and hold tight for full previews on our Soundcloud soon:

Hanuman - Juno Chart

Juno asked us to put together a chart of our favourite releases of the moment and here it is. As well as the usual Steak House and Monkey Steak tunes, there are hot new tunes from Lisbon's Iberian Records, Bristol's Idle Hands and mysterious producer Bubblez

Toddla T - Fabriclive 47

Toddla T contributes the latest installment to the Fabric Live mix series which hits record shops today. We're particularly excited about this one as it features an unreleased Monkey Steak beat called Tigris Riddim! Other artists represented include Toddla himself (of course), Skream, Oris Jay, Sticky, Deadmau5, Geeneus, Untold, Lil Silva etc etc! Check the Fabric website here for the full tracklist....

Here's a complete track off the mix, hosted by Black Plastic (this is one of my personal favourites) - Lady Chann gets heavy on classic a Sticky riddim... Ms Dynamite first spat "Boo" to this one!

Something for the Weekend and A New Family Member

Its Friday and time for a quick round up of mixes that’ll get me through the weekend with a smile on my face. First up is the excellent Lotion and Motion mix from up and coming DJ/Producer and OMG resident Tekton Naggar.

Tekton has been tearing up dancefloors across Bristol and the South West with his unique blend of Global Bass; mashing together Dubstep, Kuduro, Baile Funk, and Booty Bass in a way that is guaranteed to make the party go off!

Staying in the capital of dutty bass music, I’d like to welcome a new arrival to the Steak House Family. From next week Bristol dancehall ambassador Dub Boy will be joining the blog to give us the skinny on all things bashment, soca, and carnival. To celebrate this we’re posting up the absolutely fierce second instalment of his rooted and grounded mix series. This mix has more bangers than a lorry full of illegal fireworks! You can grab some artwork here and the mix here:

Finally a little nod to my man Toddla T for this mix that I came across the other day on the FriedMyLittleBrain blog. Toddla put this cheeky little mix together with MC Serocee to celebrate Fabric’s 9th Birthday last year. I don’t have a tracklist but I can tell you that one of the first tunes he plays is an exclusive Monkey Steak tune that’s coming out on steak House later in the year.

Musically Massive

Just got the promo through for the new David Last / MC Zulu album Musically Massive and it really does live up to its name. Last has put together an album of tight minimal dancehall, house, soca and carnival riddims. The mighty Zulu's vocal work references everything from cult film The Warriors, Spanish fly, and doo wop.

Ghettoblaster is a cheeky electro dancehall banger that sounds like it could've come out of the Toddla T mix of the same name:

David Last Vs MC Zulu: Ghettoblaster

Put me on your Guest List employs the formidable MPC/Vocal talents of CX Kidtronik (download his excellent Krak Attack Mixtape here) to make a proper bass heavy 4/4 monster that fuses elements of funky, soca, hip hop, and house:
